Roger’s Chairman’s Day, 2025, managed to be a truly magical event without actually containing very much magic!
Roger had invited members and friends to his home in Helmshore, to enjoy a midsummer barbecue and get-together. It was wonderful to see Mark and Joanne Munro again after so long, and to hear about their family – and to have Connor with us, along with dad Carl.
The extended Woods family was much in evidence, Robert taking charge of the barbecue and Felicity and Eliza forming a perfect raffle team, helped by young Arthur. Cookery magic was in the hands of Allan, who had produced some splendid desserts, and Margaret Guy, who was responsible for a variety of delicious cakes.
There was even an unintentionally vanishing (glass) garden table when the breeze blew.

There was some strolling magic in evidence, Brian B being spotted with his trademark popper-beads, but as the afternoon progressed increasingly inclement weather curtailed the larger-scale magic. Fortunately, President Paul was able to present a routine beginning with some funny business concerning a retractable ruler. This developed into a tailor-made prediction effect with envelopes strung out on a washing line, which in turn led into the production and presentation of a framed certificate to celebrate Roger’s first fifty years as a member of the MML.
It was a fun afternoon, with everyone entering into the spirit of the occasion and thanking Roger and Joan for their generous hospitality.
