How to join the MML

The League has a number of rules regarding membership; foremost amongst these is the requirement to guard the secrets of our art. Admission to the Society is offered to anyone with a genuine interest in Magic and who agrees to abide by our constitution. Admission is granted subject to a short ‘audition’ to establish if the applicant can demonstrate a reasonable level of skill in his or her chosen field. Further guidance or mentoring for the audition will be given on request. We pride ourselves on being a very open society and you can be sure of a warm welcome should you choose to join.

We have a very active membership and each month, Lectures, workshops and presentations form the basis of our programme. We are fortunate to have had some of the very best local, national and international artists appear at the society over the years.

We also hold a separate monthly meeting where members can freely discuss magical topics, effects, shows or garner advice about presentation. These workshops are a very much ‘hands on’ affair and members are actively encouraged to perform and participate in a friendly environment. We have many members with a wealth of experience in close-up, stage, cabaret, children’s and indeed the history of magic, so a helping hand is never very far away.

The Society also boasts a highly regarded magazine called ‘The MeMeL’. Editor Brian Lead puts together a wealth of insightful and interesting articles submitted by members. Topics cover the whole spectrum of Magic and ‘The MeMeL’ is a much anticipated read for many.

The Society has a well stocked library with many books, DVD’s, magazines and magic tapes available on loan to members.

We have an active Junior Section who are given, mentoring and training in a safe and relaxed environment. Juniors are taught how develop their skills and improve performing abilities.

Each year we have held our annual banquet in the sumptuous surroundings of the Mytton Fold Farm Hotel. This fine four course dinner with Close-up at tables and a variety of Cabaret magic is always a highlight in the Society year.

We have a team of willing members who get together to perform shows for a variety of events in the area. Often in support of charities or as a fund raiser, our entertainment team can put on a show to meet the needs of any event organiser. In certain years we also stage a very successful Magical Variety show at a local theatre with a full cabaret and supporting cast.

We have a great webmaster who keeps our society internet presence right up to date. Each meeting, photos, articles and information are posted on our ever changing website. Our library catalogue and back issues of the MeMeL are held in a secure members area, which is proving to be an increasingly valuable resource.

We hope we have raised your interest in the Society and if you would like to know more, please contact our secretary by Email: or visit the website and complete the contact form.
